The Opportunity
Since its founding in the 1940s, Hisco has become a national leader in supply chain solutions, catering to major industrial markets. The company has expanded through customer-focused initiatives, establishing over 30 international stocking locations. They aim to be a trusted solutions provider through innovation and operational excellence, which is why their Lean Solutions Team has determined that new lighting would be a significant component of operational efficiency.
Over time, the fluorescent lighting throughout the offices and the metal halide fixtures in the warehouse began to fail. This posed a problem for a company that prides itself on inventory management, as the warehouse had poor lighting that negatively impacted operations. Starting with the Houston location, Hisco replaced the old lighting with energy-efficient US LED solutions. Their main goals were to significantly improve lighting quality, reduce the need for maintenance, and lower annual energy consumption.
The Solution
The US LED lighting experts collaborated closely with Hisco to create a comprehensive solution that could be implemented in less than 30 days without disrupting operations. US LED replaced 357 fluorescent 2x4 fixtures with its TDK troffer retrofit kit. The TDK, at only 30W each, seamlessly transformed the existing fluorescent troffers to LED technology without disturbing the plenum space. Additionally, by incorporating Leviton® smart dimming solutions in the offices, employees can have complete control over the lighting and adjust it according to their needs.
The existing metal halide fixtures in the warehouse were replaced with ExsaBay® XLE LED high bays. US LED’s ExsaBay XLE is a scalable lighting solution designed for considerable mounting heights. It offers optical distributions for specific areas, such as aisles between racking. With better efficacy and more foot-candles on the ground, employees can see their tasks in greater detail while the company saves energy.
