Hisco, a specialty distribution company serving many markets, upgraded their Houston location to US LED lighting solutions to improve operations and better serve their customers.
The Opportunity
Since being founded in the 1940s, Hisco has grown into a national leader in supply chain solutions serving major industrial markets. By conducting business through customer-focused initiatives, they’ve grown internationally to include over 30 stocking locations across the United States, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Canada. Their corporate mission is to be a trusted solutions provider through investment, innovation, and operational excellence So it’s no surprise that when their Lean Solutions Team was working on ways to implement improvements to better serve their customers, they concluded that new lighting would be major component for operation efficiency. Over the course of time, the existing fluorescent lighting in the offices and the metal halide fixtures in the warehouse had suffered from degraded performance or had completely malfunctioned. For a company that prides itself on inventory management, the warehouse had poor lighting conditions that could conceivably lead to the exact opposite of that. Starting with the Houston location, Hisco turned to US LED to retrofit the legacy lighting system to energy-efficient LED technology. What were their primary goals? Drastically improve the lighting quality, eliminate maintenance, and reduce annual energy consumption.
The Solution
The lighting experts at LED Lighting of Houston worked closely with US LED to develop a turnkey solution that could be deployed in less than 30 days without interrupting operations. Across the entire project, LED Lighting of Houston retrofitted 357 fluorescent 2x4 fixtures (120W each), with US LED’s TDK troffer retrofit kit. At only 30W each, the TDK easily and efficiently converted existing fluorescent troffers to LED technology without disturbing the plenum space. By also installing Leviton® smart dimming solutions throughout the offices, employees will have complete control of the environment to adjust the lighting based on their needs. For the warehouse, the existing metal halide fixtures were replaced with ExsaBay®XLE LED high bay luminaires. The ExsaBay®XLE from US LED is a scalable, high bay lighting solution that is designed for large mounting heights and offers multiple optical distributions for specific areas like aisles in between racking. With better efficacy and more footcandles on the ground, employees can see their tasks in greater detail while the company saves energy.
Just finished getting our new LED lighting installed in our building, a very large project that included stairways.
